I can't get my monitor to work when I boot up my computer, the monitor goes standby, even though the cables are connected and the monitor works... my harddisc crashed a couple of days ago, the FAT couldn't be read, so I bought a new disc, but now my monitor won't work... ever since my harddisc crashed, my monitor doesn't work.. who can help me out? I NEED HELP!!

Something like this has happened to me before, a certain PC on the network just wouldn't boot correctly... Here is my "solution" that didnt always work.

1) Open up the PC
2) Make sure all of the internal connections are in place (push them all in just to be safe)
3) Disconnect the screen from the PC
4) Turn the PC on.
5) Let it load up for 30 seconds to a minute.
6) Turn the PC off.
7) Reconnect the screen
8) Turn the PC on.
--- The PC should see the screen now and 3/5 times this worked for me. However if this doesnt work...
9) Turn the PC off
10)Disconnect the screen from the PC
11)Turn the PC on
12)While the PC is on and booting slowly plug in the screen securely. NOTE - I know this isnt entirely safe (and by reading this you accept that I am in no way responisble for any loss of hair you might recieve from this or any other injury :P).
--- If this doesnt work, go back to stage 1 and try again.

I know this isnt great for daily boot-ups.

Basically your PC is on the way out, backup what you can and prepare to buy a new one.

I think he's right...
Sounds to me like a faulty video card or internal video.
If it's a video card, it can be replaced.
If it's an internal video...You'll have to replace the motherboard.

You might just need to change your monitor type. First you would need to hook up a different monitor to your computer and change the type then shut down and hook up your monitor. I've had to do this before, but it means having to borrow someone elses monitor for a few minutes. Some monitors just go into standby mode if windows is set to the wrong monitor type.

I think the problem is on bootup
IE there are no drivers used, just a generic format any screen can handle..
