No HardDisk Detected, Antivirus refuses guard

Specs: Windows XP, Asus P5K SE/ 2Gb
I have had a run in with a bunch of viruses as my idiot best friend wanted to watch Archer and now I can't get rid of 'em. Anti virus still scans in safe mode and I can't get anything in regular start up to open/run. I deleted quite a few; defragged, ran AVG, Avria, Avast, PC tools, Malwarebytes, & Comodo GeekBuddy. However none of the "Guards" [e.g. Guard Browser Guard ect ect.] will turn on. Windows fire wall can be turned on. Now all scans read no viruses.

When I start up a black screen pops up reading "No Hard Disk Detected!!" and I have gotten pop ups from pc mechanic and nortons saying I have had registry errors. Please help!

It sounds pretty messed up. I suggest you reinstall because it will be really hard deleting all the viruses on your computer. When reinstalling windows you will be sure everything is gone (be sure to format everything)
