Hi all,

Has anyone been able to do an update in the last 7 to 10 days?

In addition to the default update server, I have been completely unable to connect to any of the three servers listed here-

http://computing.net/security/wwwboard/forum/6244.html

Has anyone with the non free edition also has this problem? Has anyone tried to contact them about this?

This is for free, just change it in the drop down box to what ever one you have - they all worked for me. MrC

AVG has been having problems with grisoft.cz so you should edit the AVG url.ini file, allowing you to retrieve the updates from grisoft.com instead. The directions are below.

Hello to all
The new site www.grisoft.com seems to be faster and more reliable.

To change your default download site, find the url.ini file in your AVG install folder.

Edit it to say...

[SERVER_NAME]
1=www.grisoft.com

[SERVER_URL]
1=http://www.grisoft.com/softw/60/fe
Actual URL=1

and if you want the choice of either site in the dropdwon box, when you do a manual update, then...

[SERVER_NAME]
1=www.grisoft.com
2=free.grisoft.cz

[SERVER_URL]
1=http://www.grisoft.com/softw/60/fe
Actual URL=1
2=http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/60/fe
Actual URL=2

Good luck
Krystyna

As I stated in my first post I already tried all the servers.

Up and down perhaps, but mostly down for at least a week now.

I'm losing faith in a good product here.

And I thought it was just me... my AVG is showing 03-29-2004 version 6.0.647 virus database 414.

I have not been able to download updates either the past few days. I've been to the www.grisoft.com site several times and the site is veery sloooow. Even on DSL. :(

Well, I take it back. I was just able to download the update, a small one, using the download button. It says 3-31-04, virus database 415. I feel better now. :)

I haven't had a problem updating for a while now. I usually click on "update now" and I wait for a few seconds, then it engages.

When it comes to connecting to the AVG servers, it's kinda like a hit or miss thing. Sometimes when I try it, it connects and downloads the latest updates in a jiffy. Other times, it completely fails to connect.

Best advice is to be patient and keep trying during random moments throughout your day. For me, I've noticed that successful connections were usually made during late evenings here (west coast).
