I just bought Norton Internet Security 2003, and installed it last week. I got the internet security and antivirus utilities. On their web site it says that users get a free automatic 1-year subscription as I did.

However after getting some LiveUpdates and installing them yesterday it prompted me to close all programs and restart. No problem.
But upon restarting it takes about 1-2 minutes to reboot. It goes through POST and loads WinXP fine, but it is when I see my desktop that it takes time. My cursor is an hour glass over the desktop for about 30 seconds, but it stays an hourglass over the taskbar for 1-2 minutes before I can use my computer.

Does any one know why this is happening?

Also if I uninstall Norton Internet Security 2003, upon reinstalling it will I still get the free automatic 1-year subscription?
PLEASE help. Thank you.

uninstalling/reinstalling shouldn't effect
the subscription, it'll be set to your first
install date, unless you format & reinstall windows and then install nav2003, then it would start over with one year of definition updates.
(nav 2004 will keep the date of first installation, whether you format or not, once live update is ran, it uses symantecs database
to check when the product was activated, and will only add a year to the subscription, when subscription is renewed)

Thanks www.

But do you (anyone) know of any settings that may have changed when I installed those updates yesterday that is causing such a slow reboot? It only happened after I downloaded and installed those updates.

i.e. NIS/NAV is scanning some of my computer or connecting to their website automatically when I first boot up? I have a cable modem.

I use Norton's Antivirus and Firewall 2003. I wouldn't uninstall if you aren't getting errors at LiveUpdate. I've run into problems with uninstalling and installing over. Because it doesn't uninstall everything and leaves a bunch of folders behind which causes problems when you install again. It also leaves stuff behind in the Registry which causes problems. You might get away with it if you created a restore point first prior to installing Norton in the first place. Otherwise if you do uninstall, you have to do a search on anything Symantec, Norton related and delete in both Windows and the registry to get a clean computer for reinstalling. That has been my experience. It really isn't any fun. Don't go there if you don't have to.

Mine runs slow upon boot-up also. I don't have quite as fast as computer as you 900 Mhz but instead you might want to check their website (support area) (search) about making sure resources are set to maximum. Or do a search for slow boot-up. I doubt if uninstalling and reinstalling is going to fix anything speed related. Try using their Automated Support Assistant and see if it comes up with anything.
