Last night I ran Live Update with my Norton Internet Security 2004 Professional. After the updates were downloaded and installed, I had to reboot. When it came back up, I can no longer connect to the Internet (retrieve email in Outlook or view anything in IE or Firefox) until I turn off the Norton Firewall. I can configure it and put it on the "lowest" settings, but still nothing works until I actually disable it. Anyone know what's going on here? (I'm having SP2 issues as well, so that may be the culprit.)

What about the default firewall in XP SP2? Is it running? You may have a conflict of some kind if you have two firewalls (NIS and SP2?) running at the same time. You might try going into your network security settings, disable the SP2 firewall if it is running, and choose the option to use & monitor your own firewall (the one with NIS in your case).

Chris,

I am having the exact same problem, except that mine has been going on for several months. I am not attempting to run XP firewall at the same time. It appears to be strictly a Norton issue.

Until this problem arose, I had disabled the Windows firewall and relied entirely upon Norton's. After the update, I can't do anything with Norton's firewall on so I've disabled it and turned the Windows XP firewall on to provide some level of protection. I run one firewall or the other and have had to swap because of this problem.

I've started using Sygate. Don't know much about it, but no problems so far. See this thread for some more info.

Make sure that you have the latest version of liveupdate installed(version 2.5). Check in add/remove programs for it. If it not 2.5, go to Symantec Downloads and download and install it. It will auutomatically uninstall the previous version, or you can manually uninstall te previous version using add/remove proograms.

capt,

I downloaded latest version of LiveUpdate (2.6 released this month). Still no Internet with Norton firewall. Works just fine with Sygate.

I have posted 999 times to this forum: do NOT, NOT, NOT use Norton unless you are a techy, because Liveupdate can RUIN your software. LUD
cost my gal a couple hundred bucks to get her system straight. Norton has a good virus catcher and firewall, but LUD is bad, bad, bad, if it malfunctions. Throw it away - IF you can get it off your machine.

I use NOD and Sygate, but I would use a baseball bat before I would use Norton.

There have been times when I've been tempted to use a baseball bat.
