I just uninstalled NIS 2002. Thought I got rid of all the files but after I installed NIS 2003, when I open it, it says refreshing for a few minutes then it tells the status. I can't scan for viruses. It acts like its working but after 5 min,I click cancel and it says it only scanned 2 files. It doesn't show which files it scanned or the size. It will scan some of the files individually but not all. Already checked for viruses and found none.

I know I need to uninstall and run the RNIS Tool but Norton says 2002 and 2003 have different versions of the RNIS. What's the best thing to do here?

Thanks

Man, are people having a lot of fun installing 2003. Have you tried the RNAV.exe removal tool, and it did not work? Shirely, if it was me, I would go back to the 2002 program and return 2003. Symantec has a great return policy, even if your local dealer will not help you. I can testify to this when I returned System Works, because of some issues I had. The service from Symantec was great, as I had thrown the box away, and my dealer would not take it back. The reviews have all said that there is so little difference between 2002 and 2003, that it is not worth the upgrade, and especially the extra money. The Norton firewall is not the best one available. It is not even as good as several of the free ones. Go to the website of PC Flank, thepublicworks and Wilders.Org, and you can read the reviews and test results, and then make your choice. Take care and all the best!

I agree w/capt on this one. Norton, while it does a very good job in the AV department (we use it on our Novell Network). It does not seem to stack up with a lot of other products, free included, when it comes to it's firewall capabilities. This is just a personal opinion from someone who has used it in the past and switched.

hi shirley,
i agree with the capt. and ditto for the underdog, try and bring nis back and go for another firewall. nis is bloatware, there are many other fine free firewalls that weigh a lot less and are a lot better, kerio, sygate, zone alarm to name a few.
for more info on firewalls and security go to www.thepublicworks.com security section and link to wilders.org, pcflank.com, firewall guide, firewalls and security etc.
hope this helps,
murve

Thanks for the info. I thought I was getting better by upgrading but I guess not. Always had good luck with Norton. I uninstalled and then re-installed but I can't the Anti-virus to scan.

Will try something else.

RNAV.EXE is the removal tool from Symantec to remove all of the antivirus files. SYMCLEAN is the Symantec tool to remove System Works. Have you can tried using 'system restore", since you have ME for you operaing system. Choose a date prior to the installation of 2003 and you should be back to 2002 working. All the best!
