I have disabled the preview pane in OE after reading through this forum. I know diddly squat about viruses etc so was wondering if someone could explain how safe it is to view newsgroups through OE. Can clicking on a message execute a virus?? Apologies for my ignorance.

hi sol,
viewing newsgroups is ok as long as you don't download or open up any e-mail from someone you don't know.
Practice good and safe computing by scaning your computer at least once a day, with a good anti-virus and anti-trojan software.
use a firewall for more secure protection, and do alot of reading about computer security issues.
don't use any of those peer to peer programs such as messenger, icq, kaaza, and audio galaaxy, use can bet your last dollar you'll get virused.
it's not all negative, sol, just be carefull, it a mean world out there in computer land. just read this forum.
all the best and cheers,
murve
