I received this in my "Suspect Mail" folder today. It appears to be legit, but the claim that "the package may not actually have been placed with UPS for shipment" made me suspicious.

This message was sent to you at the request of ALL SEASON UNIFORMS, INC. to notify you that the package information below has been transmitted to UPS. The package(s) may not have actually been placed with UPS for shipment. Instead of using the link, I typed in the URL to UPS tracking. When I put in the tracking number I was in formed that it could not be tracked and that the number did not conform to their format. (Their tracking number are "1Z" and the rest are al numbers, no letters.

Do you reckon this was another trick to spread a virus, or am I paranoid?

OK, so I looked at some of my old UPS notifications and they do have similar tracking numbers. So I'm a paranoid idiot. The number still won't track and I still get the tracking number format message.

Hey Kevin! Do me a favor and delete this post.

Worm That Looks Like Phishing Message

The Windows IT Pro Security Alert list reported in November that there is a new worm making the rounds that appears to be a "phishing" message. The message says:

"Congratulations! PayPal has successfully charged $175 to your credit card. Your order tracking number is A866DEC0, and your item will be shipped within three business days. To see details please click this link.
DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE VIA EMAIL! This email is being sent by an automated message system and the reply will not be received.
Thank you for using PayPal."

Clicking the link downloads the worm, which may be a variant of either MyDoom or Bofra.

It seems that the "do not reply" message is in all of these pieces of crap. Do you think there is some reason that has to be there? Would it do them harm somehow if everybody replied? I know that a lot of legit messages of that type have "do not reply," but not all of them. But it seems that 100% of those phishing messages have them. There must be something to that.

Well, I guess they weren't BSing me after all. In fact I did order something. Apparently at the time they sent the first notice, it had not yet been scanned in at UPS. I see it's on its way now.

Their is so much new crap coming out all the time and so many new tricks that I tend to be suspicious of everything.
