Comment:

I run Shaw Secure as my anti-virus program, and in 5 years I've never had a problem...until now. I woke this morning to a virus that downloaded overnight and somehow got through Shaw's software.

The main problem is that I can't get on the internet because of a pesky dialogue box that continuously pops up. Close the box, and it immediately pops up again.

Other "symptoms":
- it is "auto" populating the address bar (Internet Explorer) with a never-ending stream of numbers and letters (same with the address bar under "Internet Options)
- cannot get to "safe mode" or use the "run" feature. I also can't get into "My computer". If I try to do any of these actions, it shuts me down by logging me off my computer.

I spent 1.5 hours on the phone with Shaw and he can't figure it out, says the "symptoms" don't match anything they have encountered.

I am able to run the system scans but it's not picking up anything, and because I can't get on the internet, I can't download anything else.

Anybody have thoughts? (I am posting this message from my laptop)

use your laptop and download these progs and either put them on a thumbdrive or burn a CD

1- Ccleaner slim
2- Malwarebytes
3- Avast free and the update package

Load them onto the problem PC and run them in that order. When you load up Avast, allow it to do a bootscan on reboot and move the regular stuff ( not the system files) to the chest. When it scans the registry and finds problems, google the results to see if they are safe to move to the chest.

Avast will also find rootkits if they are present.
Good Luck
You can find those progs in the link of my signature listed on one page for easy access.

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
