I got my new dsl connected and all was going fine. My callwave icon for my dialup dissapeared. After I was on for awhile ZoneAlarm notified me about a new network address. I didn't know what this new address was. After that I couldn't go to another web page. I had a trouble shooting box pop up, I think that is what you would call it. I closed it. I figured that since the correct address wasn't listed that this was my problem.

I looked in my ZoneAlarm firewall "zones" and the new address was there but not the one I had put in for my dsl connection. Well I went into the ADD comand and placed my dsl address in there again. It is working fine now.

Since dsl is completely a new thing for me, I am a little worried about this other address. I do notice that the Callwave icon is once again down at the bottom of my monitor. Could this be the Callwave ip address? 192.168.1.0

Does Callwave have to be listed in the firewall, in the same place with my dsl address?

It also listed a subnet mask number. I don't know what subnet mask is. I am taking a guess this might be my address?

Can someone check the 192.168.1.0 and tell me if it is Callwave or if it should or shouldn't be there?

It wouldn't let me delete it because it was in use. If it is Callwave, then I want to leave it there for now cause there are features that can be used with dsl, but I am still undecided about these features. Also, if I need to delete this, how do I do it?

I am just worried that I might be getting hijacked. Remember I am new to dsl.

Are there any other safty measures that I need to take using dsl? I only have this one computer online. I'm not networking with any other computers in my home.

Also, I have gotten only 2 entries in the ZoneAlarm log when I first connected dsl and nothing since then. Before I was getting one about every 30 seconds or so. Is there a problem here or is that normal?

Thanks

Hi Tammy1949,
Just to say thanks again for you post :-)
Tammy1949 I use to run a firewall when I had Windows 98 and when I upgraded to Windows XP I was having all sorts of problems. XP has it's own built in firewall and I found out from some Tech people that running 2 firewalls causes conflicts so I uninstalled my initial firewall and since then I have had no problems. With the XP firewall you can't view incoming and outgoing traffic but I have been assured that it is sound. I hope this helps. Take Care.

192.168.0.1 is my default gateway, and dhcp server address.
and 192.168.1.0 is a network subnet address.
this address can be used on many networks, it's a private ip. and could be assigned to your pc.
by the dsl modem/and, or windows.

Ok, but when ZoneAlarm loaded the second set of numbers. That is when I couldn't go to any other web pages. So, that is when I suspected my firewall. I thought to check in ZoneAlarm and found it had lost the numbers that I had put in with the help of my ip tech that had set me up.

When I had to put my origonal numbers back in and that's when I was able to use my internet again.

This is what made me suspecious about losing my address and getting a different. I still would like to know whare this address is supose to go to.

I just read that I wasn't supose to cancel when ZoneAlarm had alerted me to a new program. It said that it would then be blocked. And this is exactly what I did do. So this must have been my problem, maybe?

I just hope after entering the other ip address back into ZoneAlarm, that it doesn't make my computer vonerable. I also had put into the trusted zone. I don't know if that is correct or not.
