This program might be good for most people, but for some reason every time I download it and try it, it really goofs up my xp, has deleted my note pad, and after installing it, when I do a sfc/ scannow check it starts asking for wrong CD, I just have no luck with this program, hope you guys do, I just can't recommend it. I know it is suppose to be good but why do I have a problem with it?

Sue:Your experience with CWShredder is not unusual (check Computing.net archives). A certain percentage of users have experienced corruptions of their operating systems after using CWShredder.
For safety, CWShredder is best used as a tool of last resort. In other words, when you've reached a point where a complete reinstallation of the operating system is next, you've got nothing to lose by using CWShredder.
That said, some people run the utility regularly on their PC and never experience a problem. Since all PCs are configured differently, all PCs respond differently to cleaning utilities.
Programs like Spybot, Ad-Aware, Bazooka (plus other scanners) rarely create problems. If you use them, I doubt if you've had a problem with them either.
In your case, since you've already experienced problems with CWShredder, I'd suggest saving it for that (hopefully) rare time when everything's as bad as it can get with your PC.

PS Several months ago, there was a version (I can't remember the number) of CWShredder which was causing problems for nearly everyone who used it.Perhaps you unwittingly used that version.

Glad to here I am not the only one, I use all the other programs with out any problems, I will be careful in the future but do feel you should be well experienced to use it or like you said as a last resort, and I am sure that was the version I got messed up in but was such a mess don't want to try again.

hey Sue and Solarian,
for the record, I have used CWShredder without a hitch on HUNDREDS of computers, including my own.
I have used in on virtually every version / service pack of Windows OS's known to man, and continue to use it on an almost daily basis.
That being said, the only problem I have yet to encounter with it was that there are some stubborn variants of CWS that it fails to remove (and these are documented in The Chronicles, so no biggie).
I would contend that it is a small minority of users that have had problems with it. And yes, some of the poor souls have had REAL problems.
In summary, I would have to say:
DON'T FEAR THE SHREDDER...
But if you do use it, take the warning and don't say nobody told ya :)
Anything you use to modify your system can go terribly wrong. So be at peace with it before you do it.
good luck all

Monkies Can't Do This

I have Home Edition and maybe that was part of the difference....I just remember I had real big problems not just loosing my notepad but also when doing a sfc/ scannow it would ask me for a different disk than what I had and it would ask me for the pro edition, I remember having to reinstall overtop without loosing data, still had some small problems then did a update and had big problems so did a system restore, forgetting about the cwshreader problem and it started all over again because I had restored it not realizing it was the date that problems origionaly began... I even emailed CWShreader but they did not respond, so just gave up, and just scared to try again, not putting down the program, just think you need to be a more advanced user to use it.
