Just successfully set up my in-home network between (2) desktop computers wired up to a LinkSys router on DSL.

My concern now is to be secure from the internet. Any suggestions, simple, would be greatly appreciated.

Is Windows Firewall worth anything? I have ZoneAlarm, will that work?

I also noticed that after I place the computer into sleep mode, that it will miraculously come on all by itself occassionally. Why is this happening?

Thank you again to anyone taking the time to assist me.

Tony

To be secure "from" the internet, just turn off your computer.

Sorry I couldn't help it.

I have found windows firewall to be useless.
Leaktest walks right through it

ZoneAlarm or Comodo would be my first choice.

If this is wireless, you may also want to set up the wireless so a neighbor can't tap into your signal and use your internet account.

The BEST firewall is actually a ROUTER!

...and can be had for around 25 dollars.

AVG Antivirus

SpyBot Search and Destroy

Ad-Aware 2007 (or SE)

Get them all! Only the Router will cost anything!
