Excuse me if I'm totally in the wrong area, but here goes...some neighbor is using my internet connection so I can't get in. I have Homenet. When they're using it I get a msg saying "Anthony Family" is signed in and I have no connection. Do I need to install something like Norton to prevent this? All I can do is wait until they're done (usually the next day) to be able to sign in. As you can tell, I'm not real computer literate. Thanks for your help.

You need to configure your router , how to do that will be in the manual or on there web site , also if somebody is using your connection then dis-connect , until you need it .
A properly configured modem router will prevent anybody from stealing your bandwidth .

Thank you, JackFrost46. By "disconnect," do you mean I should disable or something? The laptop is turned off when they get in, but I guess somehow I need to disable my internet access. Thanks, again. :-)

This is way over my head. Is there any shield-type program that would do it for me. Thanks for your patience.

Barb, post over in the "Networking Forum", no doubt you are useing a wireless router.

What you need is to have the guys in Networking give you a set of "Step by Step" directions to set up your wireless security.

Once you get that done, it will be nearly impossible for someone to jump in on your Router again.

barb, you said "The laptop is turned off when they get in"
Now, are you using a wireless connection to get on the internet? Are YOU paying for internet access or are you getting a wireless signal from the "Anthony Family" ?
1- Do you have a Modem from a cable company or a DSL modem for your internet access?
2- Do you have a PC plugged into the modem or do you have a Wireless router connected to the modem and your PC connected to that?

Thanks to Martin Crandall and to XpUser4Real. I will go over to the Networking Forum.

To answer the other questions: Yes, I am using a wireless connection that I am paying for. I don't know who the Anthony Family is. The cable company set us up with a modem on road runner (Time Warner). We do have a wireless router connected to the modem and our desktop computer connected to that in the other room. So, I guess I could call the cable co. out to make an adjustment of some sort. In the meantime, I've been disabling my internet connection each time I close out. Didn't have any problem over the long weekend.

Thanks, again, for your responses. Just nice not to be ignored. :-)

Did you by chance use your phone number as your security code? Some ISP's mention that when setting it up. If so, change your code and you shouldn't have a problem.
