I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on AVG anti virus. It seems to be the cheapest option for a business to install but that makes me sceptical on it's reliability and if the updates are as regular as say Nortons. The other options we have looked at are Nortons and Kaspersky. Any opinions would be appreciated.

I am using AVG for almost a year, I don't have any Virus problem with it. To me, Avg is good enough. My friend told me that Norton's virus list is much longer than Avg but still I don't see any virus escape from Avg. I test Avg by using another online test.

it's a matter of coverage, between the 2, so you get what you pay for. It is no accident that AVG is free. It is a great service to those who absolutely cannot afford virus protection, but in a business environment, I would never trust a free, product, with very limited support for such an important area as security.
Also, AVG has regular updates, but the real issue what does it protect against, how comprehensive is it?
Again, you get what you pay for.
For an AV product to have the absolute most chance to be affective, it requires constant maintenance, and that means salaried people doing that work.

Just adding my two cents here... I would advise STRONGLY AGAINST Norton. It has missed so many viruses I have used as test beds for it. McAfee, PC-Cillin, and AVG all have passed tests with flying colors... McAfee being the best at on-access shutdown of trying to open an infected file.

As a side note, my fathers company uses Computer Associates' virus scanner for all their PC's and this weekend my father's laptop alerted him of a virus -- I cleaned it with McAfee boot disk, deleted the files that were infected... and this was an older virus from 2001 or so. Found the time/date stamps on files to be a week prior. So, it took that scanner they use a week to actually notice the virus. Not good.

I use McAfee 7.0 Pro on my laptop, PC-Cillin 2002 on my main desktop, and AVG on my desktop running a few servers. Between the 3 of them.. they catch everything.
