I've recieved help on this website before and I'm hoping you can help me again. My parents computer has alot of bugs on it, I ran ad-aware and found over 200 new bugs from just 2 days ago. AVG offers a free personal antivirus as well as Avast. AVG Free Avast personal Once you install whatever antivirus you choose make sure you update it. Show your parents how to use it. I also suggest downloading the free spybot search and destroy, updating it and running its scan, it will pick up and remove some spywares and malwares that ad-aware does not. Wow I can't believe how much crap was in this computer. So I did some more scans with Spybot, Housecall and AVG and hopefully they've solved alot of my problems. One concern I have now is after I did a scan with AVG I found I had 2 "Trojan horse downloader. Stubby A" files and was only able to "heal" one. I'm not really sure what exactly this is but my guess is not good. julikoop Sure looks alot better now! Yeah it is amazing how much crap we can pick up after a couple days surfin and stuff if not careful. About that stubby trojan...where is the file located that cannot be healed? By any chance it is in the "system volume information" folder? The trojan is likely hiding in the system restore folder..in that case you need to turn off restore, reboot, rescan, if all clean then turn system restore back on. Windows locks the system restore from modification from any programs including antivirus...therefore viruses cannot be cleaned from there. The only way is to turn it off temporarily. To do... Right click on "my computer" Click properties Click restore tab Checkmark "turn off system restore on all drives" Reboot the machine Rescan with avg If all is clean you can turn on system restore. (just remove the check you put to turn it off) I wanted to make sure your computer was ok before telling you to turn off restore. You should (if you havn't already) clean out your temporary internet files. Control panel> internet options> general tab> click delete files> click "delete all offline content"> ok...it will likely take a few minuites. I do see something new in your log that was not there before (besides avg)...Do you know what it is? If not can you go to c:\windows\system32\atchdogw.exe<- right click this file, click properties, and tell me what info is there? (there will be more info on the version tab.) Hello again! Ok I think the easiest way to kill the belt.exe trojan is the killbox. Download the killbox here: Killbox Save the program to disk, double click it to run the program, in the "enter full path and file name to delete" box paste the following in the box (between the lines) ---------------- C:\Documents and Settings\John\Local Settings\Temp\Belt cab ---------------- Now hit the "find and kill this file" button Ok the prompt window. It will take a moment to look for it and you should get a message saying it was sucessfully deleted. As for the other file...I am going to ask for help on that one..the reason you couldnt find it...the file name changes every reboot. If you havn't restarted your computer since you posted this log..try this: Start the killbox again. Paste the following in the "enter full path and file name to delete" box. ------- C:\WINDOWS\System32\tprintn.exe ------- Hit the "find and kill this file" button Ok the prompt window You should be told it was successful. If you did restart...it will have changed its name again so dont worry if the killbox does not find it...by then I will likely have more information. Yup you guessed it...reboot and post another log.
