I'm having a problem with a computer that has NAV installed on it. When starting up, I would get an error before entering the windows enterface saying that the NAV data files could not be loaded. I went into safe mode and deactivated Norton startup stuff via msconfig. It then started up normally just fine, but when I tried to run virus scan, I get the error navm caused an error in navm... I tried reinstalling the program and that didnt work. Do I have a virus or is it a problem with NAV?

It could posible be one that has attacked NAV. Do you have the recovery NAV floppies, or have you tried using the NAV CD in DOS to run the virus scan?

Hmm, this is not my computer, and as far as I know the NAV was a preinstalled application from gateway. I found it on the resoration cds, which will allow me to reinstall it but it just has the same problems. I don't know anything about NAV floppies...

Hello David,
I got this problem with Norton anti-virus when I got a virus, I had to reinstall a sort of "SAVE WIN" program I have and Norton automatic protection was not reconized at all, whatever I did, no way to bring it back.
I realized later that Norton has a hiden file which is never erased even when you uninstall it, except when you use the Control panel program "add & remove program's" which uninstall correctely Norton and secure any DLL's used for others programs.
I suggest you uninstall again Norton using the control panel option, then you defragment your hard drive to erase all files not used anymore by any programs, then reinstall Norton after a reboot, that should fix the problem.....

Viruses that can cause NAV not to work are the KLEZ and the YAHAA. I am sure there are more, try going to Symantec.com or www's link and run an online scan.
