Comment:

I do not remember installing this but discovered it when ZoneAlarm blocked "myfastupdate.exe" from accessing internet yesterday. I used Hijackthis to remove the two items but was then unable to view any webpages when I next started IE. Had to use system restore to get back online and this restored the toolbar and update prog. Fresh log as follows:

Is the toolbar safe? What does myfastupdate.exe actually update? Is it an adware updater or a spy? Should I remove it using Hijackthis and exactly which items in the log need to be checked. Will it crash IE again? I've looked in Add/Remove progs in control panel and there is no uninstal option for this toolbar.

Hi Richard59,

Well can't answer some of your questions, but
according to http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_all.php#Search myfastupdate.exe is OK

As far as removing the toolbar, it can be removed by fixing the following with HijackThis:

O3 - Toolbar: myfastaccess - {8C6685AB-43FF-4BF0-822C-03F03E0B47EA} - D:\WINDOWS\System32\myfastaccess.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MyFastAccess] D:\WINDOWS\system32\myfastupdate.exe

Sorry about being late with a reply.I have just seen your post. Gooles new taskbar installs WINDOWS\System32\myfastaccess.dll & WINDOWS\system32\myfastupdate.exe . I used Add?Remove & got rid of it. If you want the files install
GoogleToolbar v2.0.0.95. Personally I don't like anything that keeps needing Internet access. Hope this helps,
regards,
Max

Like ska already stated in his message, there is a uninstall function provided with the program. At first it seemed to uninstall fine, but after restarting the computer "MyFastAccess" was back to annoy me some more...
The version of MyFastAccess I used, still leaves a key in your Register located at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" which triggers 'c:\WINDOWS\System\myfastupdate.exe'. By using the uninstall feature of MyFastAccess and removing the above registry key, I successfully removed it from running on my computer again.
I don't know which version of MyFastUpdate it was, but I'm not reinstalling that crap again to see which version it was ;-)

Hi Lazar Mircea,

if you (or anyone else)
still need "myfastaccess.dll" and "myfastupdate.exe" send me your email address to math99999@hotmail.com and I'll email it to you.

However, It sound like your OS is Win98. I have WinXP Pro SP1 and those two file are in Windows/System32 directory, NOT in Windows/System. So I have the XP version.

Now here is something you should considered. I have installed "Zone Alarm 3.5.169.002"
which is designed to protect you from all the known crap somebody want to put on your computer. In 1st week after installation it stoped 382 intrusions among which 42 has been high-rated (my computer is on 24/7). In the same time friend of mine (his computer is on only 2-3 hours/day) stoped 4328 intrusions among which over 300+ high-rated. Go and figured! Apparently not all computers get hit at the same rate.

Bottom line: Using ZoneAlarm you can stop whatever you don't want to boot up/run. It will ask you when it find something it doesn't like.
