I have had some kind of bug or virus on my computer for the last couple of years. It doesn’t seem to be growing or spreading but it is very annoying. When I open up an application such as Microsoft word or AOL and start typing, within 5 or ten minutes my keyboard starts typing gibberish. If I type a certain letter like D the keyboard will type a different letter. When this happens I have to close the program and reopen it or cut and paste from another program. Any guesses on what is going on

What programs have you used to identify your bug? Have you tried trojan and virus programs like TDS, or Kaspersky? Have you tried another keyboard?

I have used most of the spyware apps. Including counter spy, xsoftspy and spybot. I have changed keyboards about 4 or 5 times.I don't really want to reformat, but....

Just an aside. I trust your XSoftSpy is version 4 or above. The earlier versions were classified as "rogue anti-spyware products" but they are now toeing the line.

There could also be a hardware problem. Some system boards have an option in the BIOS for the keyboard controller clock speed. And you of course think the fastest is best, and so do some system board makers as that is their default BIOS CMOS Setup setting. But not all keyboards and mice can clock data that fast, over heat a little and start messing up. If your system board has such a setting drop it from 12Mh back to 8Mh and see if it helps.
