Specs: Windows 7, i3/4GB
i have a 280 GB hard drive which is running out of space with just 900 Mb left. After tracking, i found it is the C\users\public\publicdocument folder that records 260GB size although it visibly contains 1.9 GB of files. What is wrong and how can i resolve this problem?

Some folders and/or files in that folder are probably hidden by default.
Go into Control Panel > Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Under Hidden Files and Folders, tick "Show hidden files, folders and drives".
Click 'OK' to save the new setting.
Now open that folder again to see everything that's in it.

On my PC, the Public Documents folder is empty even with "show hidden files & folders" enabled. I assume that's because I only have one user account (mine) and I do not have a home network set up for sharing anything.

✔ Best Answer
If it seems to be filling up that fast I think it may be some type of malware causing the problem.
Try a quick scan with Malwarebytes
and fix all it finds.

Also, if you have been editing or downloading lots of movies, they take up tons of a search and find your .mov, .mpg and avi files...if that is the problem, burn the movies to data dvds

You can find yourself the distribution of disk space. Use disk space visualizer software.
