Hi everyone, I recently visited a PHP site and the next day they put me in a mailing list!! Do you know of a privacy/security program that will alert me when someone tries to steal my email address?

They didn't steal your e-mail address, they merely added it to their mailing list - with your consent. You could have opt out.

That's what I'm telling!! They never asked for my email and of course I didn't give it while visiting! That means some nasty web code sniffed it from my machine, right?

If what you're saying is correct, then what has gone wrong with your Firewall?

If the website managed to work out your email address without you giving it them (as you explained later) then they must have been able to "walk right in" to be able to wrinkle out that information. This would be my first worry rather than special programs that tell you afterwards when it is too late.
As said by others, your firewall should have stopped it. It might be that they put a "nasty" on your machine to get this info, so the second worry is whether it is up to anything else. I would run AV and malware tests pronto.
It sounds like your basic security needs to be reviewed because this shouldn't have happened. Go to "Shields Up" or "PC Flank" and see how your machine handles their tests. Every port should show as stealthed (non-existent to the outside world).

OK, I'm talking about www.mdata.gr. Just visit it. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong... I'll check it with a friend's PC. I use Norton Internet Security 2005. It's up and running. Firewall ON, Privacy ON etc. It's just very curious...

Worth running one or both of the tests in my last para #6, just to make sure your security is working as it should be.
The PC Flank "exploits" test also includes those patched by MS Updates - makes sure they have all taken.

Are you still able to Update your Norton Internet Security - 2005?
Do you have SP2 for XP ?
Do you have IE7?
Are you up to date with all the Microsoft Critical Updates?

I have SP1 installed. I use IE 6, and I have installed all critical updates. Norton Internet Security is updated. AV and SpyBot show OK. Shields Up shows all my ports as "Stealth". That's good.
