my CPU jumps to 100% when...

It jumps up to 100% whenever i go into my documents and files/folders and such. any reason why? do i have a virus? or spyware?
Only way to get it back down is to ctrl alt dlt and end explorer.exe and enter that into a new task. Does that hurt my computer?

If you right click on your taskbar, select task manger, then look at processes, now click on the CPU header, this will bring the process which is using all the cpu to the top, whats the name of that process? That will be a starting point
