Every half and hour or so, an icon will pop up in the bottom righthand corner of explorer (with all my other icons), i kno its a virus as it follows with pop ups and odd fake critical system error messages, ive found the .exe in system32 but it wont let me delete it. Ive also tried runniong avg free edition, ewido, and ad-aware se personal. Nothing stops this from reoccurring. Ive also tracked it down in my processes list. Every time i end the process it restarts. My startup folder is cleaned out. Im lost from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Go through the removal instructions at this link Spyware Quake Removal

Then please post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the virus/spyware/hijacker can be identified. You can download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.

Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor at this forum.

Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly.

Definitely run an HJT log.
It might be something far simpler though, as in running AdminTools>Services, then shutting down the offending leech, or run>msconfig.exe>OK after "Start" to examine all the programmes you're starting.
Be VERY Careful in Sys32.
I know...
Use the HijackThis log and the tutorial, and you'll be fine. Go to www.castlecops.com homepage, and then you'll get an overview of how your system is starting up.
Definitely bookmark the tutorial, as HJT is a powerful registry-editor.
Not to worry, it has a back-up utility.
Best of luck to you!
