Hey,

I stupidly clicked a link I got sent today- It said something like "Is this your pic on this site"- Followed by a link something like www.rate-my-pic.net/xxx where xxx is my email address.

It then tried sending the link to every online contact and does it periodically whenever im signed into MSN.

It hasnt done anything apart from this and doesnt seem malicious, but its damn annoying!

Any help would be appreciated.

You may have the W32.Bropia. Go here... http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.bropia.html

Download the removal tool and run it.

Or you could download this free AV tool which should pick it up no problem: http://www.free-av.com/

Did you manage to get rid of it and repair the damage?

My wife did exactly the same thing on our home comp yesterday and I am struggling to get rid of it. Norton Antivirus doesnt detect anything, nor does their Bropia removal tool. It seems to have done something to the windows firewall, disabled/removed the Microsoft Adware detector, and stopped Norton Antivirus from loading...

Any help much appreciated

I did the same thing.
On another forum some people suggested it was Hellz Little Spy, and a number of us used Spybot Search and Destroy to locate the file and Pocket Killbox to delete it.

This worked for some people, but for others (such as myself) it hasnt done anything.

This virus seems to have disabled all connections to the internet besides those used by IE. I cant use Firefox or MSN anymore or anything like that (which means I cant update my antivirus software).

Like everyone else, help would be appreciated.

OK, comp seems ok now, here how.....
ran the online virus checker from trendmicro called housecall, this showed up the wfirewall7.exe as a virus in windows system32, but couldnt repair it, so...

If you dont know about the registry then dont do this next step...
Delete any items which refer to wfirewall7.exe in the following two registry places:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\currentversion\run
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\currentversion\runservices

Then reboot to safe mode command prompt
- turn of the Hidden, System, and Read only attibutes of the file with the ATTRIB command.
"ATTRIB -H -S -R C:\windows\system32\wfirewall.exe"
the delete it.

Reboot and all should be OK.

It had also Disabled some services, by running Run\Services.msc and click the standard tab, you can see all the services and which ones are disabled, some need to be set back to automatic.Sorry I cant remember them all but there was at least
Script Blocking
Security Centre
Windows Firewall

Hope this is of help.
PS when I ran the online checker from Trendmicro it picked up several viruses which Norton never has picked up??? How good is Norton Antivirus anyway then???

Yesterday, I got this message from a friend of mine that said, "lmao you dumbass" followed by some link, so I clicked it, & then it started sending the same message to every one of my online contacts, & I still have no clue how to stop it. I can't sign onto my MSN without having spammed half my contact list. How do I get it to stop?! I tried downloading a removal tool, but it said that it didn't detect anything. Anyone got any advice? It's driving me insane.
