Comment: I run Win98SE and connect to the web via a dial-up. I used to be able to send files to my children out of state while on MSN Messenger but for the past 6 months, I get an error msg and the file doesn't go after they accept. Asked Messenger support and they said it is a problem with my firewall. However, I have no firewall installed. Any ideas? I have McAfee on-line virus scanning and C. A.'s eTrust EZ antivirus.

Reply: I would shy away from McAfee...anything,and go with Norton if you wanna spend a few $'s,and/or AVG,which is free. Not sure about the MSN problem.I run NAV,and Sygate's Personal Firewall with no problems...other than the occasional MSN screw-ups,which I think all MSNIM users experience...that's just here tho'. I'm sure others have your problem, with more input.

Reply: your isp is blocking ports or its an msn thing ? use msger help (look under setting up firewalls to work with msger it hidden away from the normal stuff and has a nice heading stating this is not for end user (what about those ppls who run firewalls ?) to find what ports are need to be open for file transfers

Reply: This may help some people: If you use Internet connection sharing, you will not be able to send files using MSN Messenger. You will be able to receive them, but not send them.
