Comment:

During the past few days whenever I go to the windows updates page, I'm asked to install a windows update (26-05-2005) distributed by Microsoft windows publisher & the webpage downloads with an error.
I have never heard of Microsoft windows publisher, although the security certificates seem to be valid.
Has anybody experienced the same thing?
What is this installation for?

I have no idea what you're talking about unless you can provide the url for this update. I believe you're not speaking of Microsoft Publisher which is a consumer creative printing programs used by small businessesand non-designers.

Agreed XpUser, not much of a detailed explanation. I think you are talking about Microsoft Publisher which used to be included in the old Office packages. Im not even sure if they still market it, I think Microsoft Word was replacing it. At any rate, try inserting your Microsoft Office CD and then dont click through. Read through it carfully, you will notice you can remove the Microsoft Publisher so it is not installed. Of course, I am assuming you dont use it.

I still think you should just remove Microsoft Publisher if you airnt using it. Hopefully, you can update then. To uninstall it, insert the Office CD, and during the setup part, click the option to "Not Installed"

What you were prompted to do is consent to the installation of a digital signature (another name for Microsoft windows publisher) required for you to use the new Microsoft Update site. If you don't have XP Office suite you don't need it.

Th applet you are seeing has nothing to do Microsoft Publisher, rather it is linked to the certificate from IE. (Tools >>> Internet Options >>> Content >>> Publishers)

List of Lists.

Microsoft Publisher is part of M$ Office.

Have you ever gotten the critical updates for Office?

They are just as important as the updates for the OS.
