MS update is failing

Toshiba / Satellite 5205

Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 2.393 GHz / 1023 MB
MS update ends with an error every time.
Browsing has become very slow.
I ran Adaware, Spybot SD, Spyware blaster, MS Defender, I had Avast running all along.
The results were only tracking cookies and MUI changes.

Can't re install system eventhough I can run the recovery disk on another computer.

I don't know if I'm infected.

Thank you for any help.

This does not mean your computer is infected, but to be sure we can run some checks...

I would like you to install UnHackMe. This will find any rootkits on your system which may be hiding from the malware scanners.

Reboot, then install and run Malwarebytes.
Finally, run an online virus scan with ESET.

Hope this helps.

You should scan your computer with updated antivirus software and Malwarebytes in Safe Mode. Restart the computer and press F8 and select Safe Mode.

You should also check Date and Time setting. Is it proper?
