It can't be so! SP2 fixed everything, didn't it? including my car, my cat, my lawnmower, and a darn fine margarita....
hmm...maybe not.
good to see you Kid. I am still alive.
coming soon...SP2.Q, the Sequel "Revenge of the This Will Never End"

aosclay, I realize you are being facetious, but many people on the Intarweb seem to be under the misconception that an ongoing development cycle - be it for Windows, Linux or anything else - is a bad thing.
Microsoft never claimed that SP2 was a fix for everything. SP2 is exactly what it claims to be - a service pack, part of the maintenance phase of an operating system which is generally very well designed and built. Of course there will be defects in XP, as there are in any piece of software. SP2 corrected some of these (and very possibly introduced some new ones). Hotfixes like the ones in the article posted by TheKid will correct other defects.
The point is, defects are an inherent part of software development. There will be flaws in any software, which is why maintenance (service packs, hotfixes, etc.) is considered to be an integral part of the software development life cycle. It never will be, nor should it be, "the end" as you say, because responsible software development does not end when the product is thrown over the wall at the consumer.
Lest we be deceived into thinking that software maintenance is unique to the Windows world, remember that Linux (and GNU in general) is constantly under development. And Linux is far from flawless. See linuxsecurity.com for a sampling of defects in GNU/Linux.
That being said...do you keep your systems up to date, aosclay, and do you apply best-practices to mitigate the potential impact of exploitable flaws? ;)

Hey jimminy,
Ummm... I was just making a goofy joke for Kid's amusement. Relax, i'm a professional. :)
"The End" I referred too was an end to the endless hordes of little troglodytes that can't seem to help themselves from finding new ways to exploit any hole in every piece of code on the face of the earth.
Regardless, it was a joke. Don't take it to heart (no one else will) I love service packs, hotfixes, and good margaritas.
Update early, update often, and don't take my seat by the salt bucket.

A joke...I get it now :)
I mistook you for one of the umpteen Internet wonks (and at least three of my customers) who really think that way. We can only hope that some of them will read this and learn something, eh? :)

hey jimminy,
LOL.. Only 3 of your customers are that way? You are fortunate! I quit counting when keeping track of it required a slide rule. No harm no foul. :)
Life is good.

At least three, aosclay. I try not to keep count. It's depressing, and bad for the blood pressure. ;)

hey Kid,
I hold you PERSONALLY responsible for all the world's need to patch its OS's. Posts such as yours make it IMPOSSIBLE for people to remain blissfully unaware. How dare you be so so helpful and informative!
Good to see you. :) Consider the messenger shot. Want a margarita?
