I just downloaded the "Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool" from the Windows update notification icon
I was wondering, am I suppose to see the "Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool" scanning my computer when it runs?
When it is offered, I download this tool from the Windows update notification icon at the bottom of my computer, but I never see anything happening afterward I click on it to download.
Am I missing a step in using this program or is it hidden somewhere on my computer?
Depending upon where your download path was (for example: desktop) then look for the icon named as below:
Windows-KB890830-V1.4-ENU.exe
Double click it to run the scan. It is a good tool, but only scans for about 30-45 or so infections. Hopefully, you have current anti-virus, spybot, adaware and an anti trojan running in background at all times too.

Thank you.
I did a Windows search and couldn't find this Windows-KB890830-V1.4-ENU.exe. Am I supose to download this program? I had thought that it was an automatic scan that Microsoft does.
I have everything you mentioned above except for the anti-trojan. I do have spywareblaster though.
I'm not ignorant, I just need more learning!

It's a tool that should show up every month/second Tuesday as a MS Update. It runs once, with "it's" latest detection sigs and then uninstalls itself.

I get the update notification for it but I never see it at all after I tell it to download so I don't know if it was something that suppose scan automatically in the background or if I have to install this program manually. This was the question I guess.
