Need more info:

1. What did you use to download the music files?

2. What type of music files were they (mp3, wav, other)?

If you are SURE they are a certian type....like mp3's, for example.....search your entire drive for *.mp3

What may have been removed is just he program used to download the files....not the files themselves. If so...you will see them listed after doing a system-wide search.

Otherwise....you could try system restore (just search in your Windows XP help for System Restore and run the System Restore Wizard).

Restore the computer to a point BEFORE it the problem. I don't know if that will return any lost downloaded files, but trying it won't hurt if the above suggestion does not work.

I used KaZaa, and they are mp3 files.

I tried "System Restore" and it put back the folder, but all of the files are still gone.

Same thing happened to me. We eventually found our songs in a different folder on the desktop.

Try looking through Explore and find your Kazaa folder.

It also removed my Kodak program.

I uninstalled it after that.

Good luck. I hope you find your music.

Yeah...at least try that global search.

Start / Search/ For Files and Folders/ All Files and Folders/ type *.mp3 in the first blank / make sure it is search ALL of C:\ (not just in a sub-folder of C).

This will return a search of all mp3's on your C drive.

BTW....when you did a System restore....did you restore it to the point JUST BEFORE the issue occured? If you selected a restore point too far back, you could restore to a point before you ever downloaded the files to begin with.

HTH

Just for information, herself mantions that the files were moved to another folder - I haven't come across this. What was the folder called? was it just a renamed folder or was it 'physically' moved from one location to another? I hate to think that M$ is becoming even more 'big brother' by trying to take on file sharers etc. More information please.

The folder showed up a few days later on the desktop with the Kazaa "K" on it.

From now on, move your things out of My Shared Folder and just leave a few MP3s in there.

Thanks for all the help.

I was able to retrieve them by opening up the SpyWare program and "unquarantining"? the file.

Thanks again!!

If that's the origional Kazaa program I would dump it. The reason it got quarantined is because it's full of spy and adware so you may have opened a can of worms by unquarantining the file

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
