Subject: MRU-Blaster (has anyone used it)
Reply:
It is supposed to be quite useful if you have some programs that you don't want to keep the list of recent files in the registry (such as Words, media player,...etc), and if MRU-Blaster support it, then it will deleted them for you. However, if MRU-blaster doesn't support your software(yet), then it won't do you any good. My O&O defrag won't defrag some files during boot after I "clean" my system with MRU-Blaster. I post the problem to their forum, and the author said MRU-Blaster doesn't deal with the file under restore(which is the file that cannot be open by O&O after MRU), but the thing is MRU-Blaster also delete some user-assist entries in the registry, and that might affect some program in a unexpected way, especially if that particular program need the information from the past session. Another thing I don't like about MRU-Blaster is that you can not customize your ignore list, and thus you don't know what have been "cleaned" and you only have a limited list of programs that you can exclude from the cleaning process. I will recommend anyone to use this software with extreme care, and don't use the silent clean (automatic), for manual clean you can choose the entries before you clean.
***My comment has to do with the last part of what michaelmak0 said in his reply.
If you did choose to use the silent clean from the entries list upon downloading I suggest to do this:
Run msconfig and go to the startup tab and take check marks out of anything that says mrublaster then restart your computer. This way these programs will not run on startup, but you will still be able to run MRU-Blaster from your program list.
I have yet to have any problems running my defrag as michaelmak0 posted.
