I seem to be the first port of call when friends have a problem but this one is astonishing ! When he opens Windows XP several things happen. A window appears entitled Power Scan 1.1 The mouse slowly moves to the right of the screen and cannot subsequently be moved other than up and down.An icon appears on the desk top named Wet_Me! and then a window appears saying there is a n-CASE Alert. Without a mouse it's difficult to do anything ! Even in safe mode the mouse is not usable.Anybody know what is going on ? Thanks.

You can use Alt+Tab to switch between windows, and tab to switch between buttons etc. And of course, you can use the Windows key to open the start menu. It's all a bit slow, but without the mouse, that's about all you can do. By the way, did you check to see if the mouse is plugged in properly? ;) You never know, that could be the source of the mouse problem. If you're able to manuver around, download Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy, update them and then scan your computer to see if it fixes the problem.

Thanks guys. The mouse problem was a red herring. A new mouse sorted it.
