Subject: Morpheus, bugs & spyware ?? |
Comment: I used to use Napster to find records that I could not find despite looking at many online stores. Mainly stuff deleted from the 60's. Does the recent version of Morpheus have bugs & spyware etc ? I am aware Kazaa is infested. I have an AV prog, a firewall & Adware and never open any downloads without virus checking. Thanks

Reply: You have all the tools to eliminate the spyware etc... I run Morpheus and iMesh and about every 2 weeks or so I run AdAware, clean everything up and re-install iMesh and Morpheus... Keep the virus files up to date... Works ok... Steve

Reply: Get Kazaa Lite. Kazaa is the leader in the field of P2P applications - or so i'm lead to believe - and since you have the means to stop all of the junk they bundle with it you should have no problems.

Reply: ...i too started with Napster towards the end of its demise... ...i now use KaZaA, WinMx and Morpheus in that order. Being UK based i find KaZaA has a better choice of '50's and '60's music although WinMx is getting better. i think Morpheus used to be better for old American hits. Morpheus had a new release of software recently and i re-downloaded it the other day, but am suspicious that it has 'adaware'. WinMx has none of these, but can be slow to connect to downloads, but has better bit rates. Your best starting point is 'slyck.com' which will give you all the info you need about all the sharing sites. Good luck and enjoy that '60's music!

Reply: Michael2, From what I've been learning (esp. from some of the good folks on this forum), I'm thinking you have to suspect all of those programs. Steve, I'm curious why you reinstall imesh and morpheus. It sounded like you do this after you run adaware (am I not understanding?). I used to think imesh was clean of that stuff, but boy was I wrong! adaware catches a whole bunch of stuff that imesh puts in your system.

Reply: Shareaza.com is relatively new and has no ads. Tip if you want to increase the files available to you: Tools->Shareaza Options->Connections: To Peers:10 Open your firewall port 6346 to share your files.
