OS: XP

Comment:

I would like to install a firewall which, I believe, is better than the one already installed. Is it O.K to have two firewalls or do I need to uninstall the existing one?

Which firewall is better than the one already installed? It's not advisable to have two or more software firewalls installed. One reason is that it can cause the firewalls to stop working altogether.

try either firewall, as long as the one not in use is not install in startup files at boot, (disabled)

Hi,

If you want to improve your Firewall protection, install a hardware Firewall such as a router.

You can normally use a hardware & software Firewall without any problems

Two software Firewalls are a definite no no.

As advised the XP Firewall provides protection in one direction only.

If you use Windows OneCare, the XP firewall provides protection in both inboard & outboard directions, with full control over what you can allow and disallow to access the net.

The reason I asked the question about firewalls is because the one I have at the moment does not monitor traffic both ways. There are one or two freely available that do monitor traffic both ways and I was toying with the idea of downloading one of them. I am now having second thoughts in view of the above messages.
Thank you, Joly
