I was checking for critical updates today and found 5. So, because I had problems with one update a short while back, I did a custom install....made sure to make a system restore point before d/l ing the new ones. 3 worked fine, but 2 caused some more problems. One of them disabled my keyboard so I couldn't type in any address boxes, and the other one opened 2 IE windows (blank pages) that froze the PC. The only way to make the PC operable was to do a system restore, then all was fine.
I would suggest to do custom installs on criticals and setting restore points after each one, that's the only thing that worked for me. Then once you've weeded out the bad updates, you can delete all restore points and make a new one so you have somewhere to go back to. HTH's anyone that will encounter this problem. MS closed my last case as unresolved so they couldn't charge me for their help.
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I'm really starting to question my xp installation, I've done repair installs and still no joy. I have far too much installed on my pc to think about a fresh install which I did about 3 months ago on a new HD.
I noticed that my other 2 pc's are not having that same critical update problem so I guess I'm stumped on this. The pc in question is virus and spyware free from what I can see.
Anyone have any solutions for this besides a fresh install?
ThanxHopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
