ZoneAlarm: program icon is normally red and yellow with the letters ZA; the icon changes to red and green bars to show on-line activity.

I REALLY like to have this monitor Icon so I can at a quick glance see the status but ZoneAlarm has interfered with too many of the programs I want to run and in frustration I finally uninstalled it and am now depending on the MS Firewall included with XP2/XP3.

Is there somewhere a small freeware program that monitors internet activity (download/upload and local network traffic) etc. and displays a similar Icon showing activity?

NetStat Live is small, free and will do what you want. I'm all but certain that it puts an icon in the Notification area aside of the clock. I used it years ago and liked it and it is compatable with all versions of Windows.
