Comment:

I have been recently attacked with a keylogger called "infostealer". I scanned with Norton and quaruntined it and I had moved all my media (Pictures, Music etc) onto 2 DVD-RW discs and a 4 GB USB Flash-Drive.

I still didn't want to take any chances and I reformatted my hard-drive after. It was like out of the box and I had to set up all my settings again (computer name etc) so I know the keylogger was gone for sure. I put my media onto the reformatted hard-drive after. I was being paranoid and I thought the keylogger might somehow have gotten onto the DVD-RW's or the flash drive so I scanned with Norton and various other anti-spyware but infostealer didn't come up. Is there any definite way to know if infostealer is still on my computer or not? As I'm getting really anxious trying to find out whether if it is or not.

Regards Aaron,

Try to download and install AVG ANTISPYWARE and make sure that you have the AVG Guard option set on.
Scan the files with AVG, and if there is no sign of infostealer i think you might be safe.

I've installed and run a full scan and it found nothing except for cookies. I'm still a little nervous if there is any definite way to see if I still have infostealer on my computer or not.

Also would it have been possible for the infostealer to get on my dad's laptop? Our laptops have had NO connections between them at all except for the wireless network we use together.

You would have gotten rid of that parasite by reformatting and reinstalling. No need to be paranoid. :)

OK thanks Jennifer. So the keylogger couldn't have gotten onto the DVD-RW's or the Flash Drive when I transfered my media back to the reformatted computer?

And also my dad's computer wouldn't get it would it? And no my dad virtually visits no sites at all which are related to mine. I got the keylogger from a gaming website and I know that my dad doesn't play any games.

You can be sure that reformat killed the keylogger, but this doesn't mean that you haven't 'download' it again. What I recommend is to do the following:
1)download the trial version of Anti-Keylogger(you can do this from this link: http://www.anti-keyloggers.com/down...
2)install and run it.
In case you have any of known or even unknown type of keyloggers you will find the blocked modules in 'Auto-detected modules' list of 'Protection policy' section.
3)Point your mouse cursor ont he name of the module and you will see the full path to it. In case you haven't installed that program, or do not know what this module is, then Google. In case it is the part of a keylogger it will tell you. Note that it will be already blocked by that moment by Anti-Keylogger, but as this is a trial you will need to buy the program to continue or to kill keylogger somehow. The choise is yours. Good luck!

I remember the exact site I've got it from and I haven't been on that site since.

What I need to know is if the keylogger could have gotten onto the DVD-RW discs or the flash drive.

I know you have run a scan on your computer, but have you scanned your cd's or dvd's ?
If no antispyware can find anything or that the Norton antivirus can find anything except cookies, then the chance that you have anything either on your computer or discs is very very small.

If the Norton have quarantined it, it means that the computer is safe to use.
You say you have formatted the computer which means the computer is even safer to use.

To be 100% sure that you will not be infected again, then throw the discs you suspect there is a virus on !!!!

If not, install Norton Antivirus again, and if the virus is trying to install itself again, the Antivirus will quarantine it once more.
If it quarantines it again, then you will know for sure which file the virus is on (On dvd).

Don't stop using the computer just because you are afraid of the Infostealer Virus.
If you want to be afraid, then think about all the 400.000 other viruses you can be infected with !!!!!
