Microsoft's Security Essentials

Specs: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, 3.166 GHz / 4093 MB
I recently downloaded and installed Microsoft's FREE Security Essentials program. Today I noticed that my Windows Defender program is OFF. I can't seem to switch it ON, yet my Security Center indicates that all is good and all GREEN. My question is, does this Microsoft program automatically turn OFF Windows Defender?

Update: I noticed that Windows Defender is no longer listed in the Security Center. Wondering if that could be my answer.???

When you install Security Essentials it will disable, & possibly uninstall, Windows Defender as they both do the same job.

Thanks Johnr. You are 100% correct. I found the information, finally, on the Internet. I appreciate your response.
