Wonder if any of you guys heard about this:
"As expected, Microsoft has released a new beta of recently acquired GIANT Software's anti-spyware software to the public via its Web site. The company also announced that it expects to release a beta version of a new antivirus tool next Tuesday, which is based on technology acquired from GeCAD in 2003."

Hmm, According to the link regarding the free MS antivirus it will be updated free MONTHLY. That's not a very frequent update rate!! I wonder if it will have heuristics/generic detections?

the monthly releases are updates to the free "virus removal tool" that ms is going to have available for download on the 11nth of January. their anti-virus is a different program. and will cost $$$. in its final version.
