So I figured to post this as information for the masses. If you are like me, having just upgraded to Windows XP Professional 64 bit version, be prepared to look somewhere else for Anti Virus Software. Turns out that both McAfee and Norton don't feel that it's important to extend their product over to XP Pro 64 bit version, and after talking to a McAfee Rep, they have no plans to ever make a compatiable Anti Virus prodcut for the OS.

I've read that the same results exist for Norton. So then you must ask the question, what other Anti Virus could I go with? Now you'll hear a lot of mumbo jumbo from Microsoft claiming that XP Professional 64 bit version is a lot more secure then the previous versions which it is, but it's still not wise to run a system without any virus protection. So I came across Avast Anti Virus.

Avast seems to be a great anti virus program. It not only keeps with real time protection but it also checks for sneaky script exicutions and is very nicely laid out. The other thing, it's not a resource hog like McAfee and Norton. The free version is actually very nice considering it's free and the professional verison is obviously the ultimate in anti virus protection. I've also read of a few other anti virus programs out there that will also work with XP pro 64bit. So if you happen to pick up this OS, be aware that you do have options when choosing an anti
virus program other then McAfee and Norton

I have been using Nod32 for 18 months with Win XP Pro x64. I did give Avast a try but did not feel secure enough with it.
