Probably McAfee is also infected.
Download another free virus scan like avira antivir from htttp://freeav.com, install that one and scan your pc for viruses.

I have tried Avira myself but noticed that everything has to be scheduled on it, scans, updates, etc.

My recommendation would be avast free and allow it to do a bootscan on reboot and move all it finds to the chest.

McAfee is a known resource hog and not as good as old times said it was.
If you decide to unload it, be sure to use the uninstaller from the McAfee website so it all gets removed.

The choice is yours.

That's not correct.
Avira does realtime scanning, updates can be scheduled, but you can also do a manual update, if needed.
Avira, also the free version, includes Boot-Sector scanning on all attached drives, MBR-scanning and searching for rootkits.

So I guess, it must have been a quite old version, you've tested.

I think so, because I use it for a long time and it works perfectly.
All things I described above are working as described.
