I have been trying to delete this program but cannot because it doesn't initially tell me what is missing. Just that it cannot scan. I finally was able to get into the screen where it told me it is mimssing "definition files missing" I want to take it out completely but can't until I reinstall. Can you help?

McAfee makes a removal tool. Check out this link.

You would probably see a performance increase if you removed McAffe from your machine completely and installed Microsoft Security Essentials in it's place. After you get rid of McAffe, you can download Security Essentials here...

pjsprout, you can download MCPR.exe,
run that to remove all of McAfee junk on your PC. I would not suggest MSE (microsoft security esentials) for your Anti-virus as it is not a strong program. My choice would be Avast Free,
Get the latest version on the right hand side of that page, get Avast to do a bootscan on reboot and remove all it finds to the chest.

Avast has much better real-time protection, automatic updates daily and no scheduled scans necessary. MSE is free but lacking complete protection and cannot remove most problems it finds.

Some HELP in posting on plus free progs and instructions Cheers
