McAfee Virus 9.0 keeps stalling

i have McAfee VirusScan Home Edition 9.0. which i have had no problems with, however lately when i try to run a virus scan it stalls, it is still running the scan, as the little magnefing glass is still moving, however i have left the scan running over night and it is still in the same place as it was when i went to bed. does anyone know why?
my mother in law have a Hewlett Packard pavillion 6650, the system crashed, i reinstalled windows, unfortunally the recovery disc does not work, i need drivers for the mother board audio

Did you immediately restart the PC everytime it asked during setup and updates? Did you turn off pop-up blocker during install and updates? Have you recently scanned found any viruses or opened any e-mail from unknown sender and unknown subject? Here is some Crisis Help Info.
