I used McAfee Virus Scan for three years; never gave me troubles. I was pleased with the Virus Scan but now they have come out with a new bundled-up package of anti-virus, firewall, and privacy utility too. I didn't want all that crud because I have me own preferences for firewall and privacy. Luckily for me my subscription was coming up for renewal so it was a great time for me to say farewlll to McAfee. In my opinion, they took a good Virus Scan and turned it into a resource-hogging, bloated package of "like it or not; you get it" type thing. That's absurd....

So I installed the free Grisoft AVG anti-virus and it is so, so much leaner than McAfee. I can notice the difference at boot-up time especially. I never actually realized how much McAfee slowed down my pc.

So perhaps that might be something you might want to consider too. If you do decide to get rid of McAfee, you'll need to run their uninstaller because there are tons of registry entries. It took me quite some time to get rid of all of it. I even had to go into safe mode and pluck out entries that way too....

It will be interesting to see how many people leave McAfee. I think they took a fairly good virus scan and created a huge bloated combination package of unwanted utilities. Bye bye McAfee......

Oh, I did contact McAfee to ask if there was anyway I could simply continue with just Virus Scan... I was told no, the package now includes all the utilities bundled up into a huge bloatware package (my words, not theirs of course !).

Bloatware means you've filled your house with so many things that you hardly have room to navigate your way from room to room.

I still gotta get around to Spring cleaning, XpUser..... I think I'm a tad late, lol.... My house definitely has some bloatware that needs some attention..
Maybe save it for next Spring, lol ????
