Comment:

i bought and installed mcafee virusscan for my old computer and registered it to get updates.

i then bought a new computer, installed mcafee virusscan and registered it with a new account by mistake.

now the registration program won't let me re-register using the old account. i've uninstalled it, but on re-installation it still remembers my registration. even if i try to register using my old account via the web interface it says "not authorised" and i have to use the new account.

i've contacted mcafee, but haven't got a reply yet.

if you know how to erase the product registration please let me know.

thanks.

Reply:

1. uninstall all mcafee software and reboot

2. show hidden files and folders (windows explorer, tools, folder options, view)

3. delete all mcafee folders and files under:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
C:\Documents and Settings\[USER]\Application Data

4. reboot and re-install mcafee software

I think you screwed yourself by (purchasing??) a new registration. The way you worded it, it sounds like you bought another one... cannot decipher your wording.
But I think the above reply is on target; un-install everything. Do a scan for every McAfee file, and delete everything.

What I would do then, is to try to re-install your old one bt logging into that account, and clicking on the "download virus scan" link. Hopefully, it will allow you to download the older virus scan. If it doesn't, then I'm lost at that point....
Guess I'd try to contact them again.....
