Subject: McAfee install - remove eTrust
OS: Windows XP
CPU/Ram: Pentium 4 - 512
Manufacturer/Model: Medion
Comment:

I'm trying to install McAfee on my PC, which has an existing version of CA's eTrust antivirus. When I try and install McAfee I get a message which informs me that it won't operate effectively due to eTrust. I have removed eTrust using the add/remove function, but still experience the same problem. Any advice welcome.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I found those instructions and have followed them to the letter. eTrust files were also in a backup drive (D:) and have been removed from there also. I have also run unvet32.exe which some chatroom recommend. All to no avail. I have tried uninstalling McAfee and then installing, but still receive the same message during installation that CA's eTrust is still present.

My email requests for assistance to the McAfee helpdesk have gone unanswered. I'm thinking of spending the ~$50 to get online help from McAfee. This is all very frustrating....

Thanks for your response.

Hi again CRL;

Check this link and see if it helps.

http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106741

Perhaps some more of the registry needs editing then EZ-Trust let on.

Did you run unvet32.exe in safe mode?

You do not need to pay Mcafee for on-line support help. Email and Chat support is free for home users. Only phone support cost money.

I wouldn't pay as the cost exceeds the benefit in my opinion.

Try as I suggested and post back first;
RandyL
