I have purchased McAfee Security for my Dell Inspiron netbook. It comes with Firewall protection. Lately the security alert keeps warning me that my firewall is off...when I try to switch it on manually...it comes on for about 30secs and then switches off again... What could be the problem...I have tried using McAfee Virtual Technician but it does not help...
Worried that I am vulnerable to viruses now...

why you ever purchased McAfee is beyond me. That one and Norton are about the worst.
Was there any other anti-virus pre-installed when you got the laptop? If so, did you uninstall it properly?

Hi.. Well, it was working well until about a week ago. Alright there was no pre-installed anti-virus software loaded when I bought it.
Since the trouble began...I have tried McAfee Virtual Technician and something called Asension (I think that is what it is called) free scan and remedy.
Sorry to ask this...I'm not very IT savvy...but do I need to unistall McAfee Security and reinstall it. I renewed the subscription for a year in Feb...so wouldn't want to give up the subscription now.
your best bet if you purchased it, would be to contact mcafee tech support, that would be the first thing I would do. Then if you get no satisfaction, ask others for help. You can try uninstalling it using the uninstaller from their website and then rebooting and re-installing it again....that may work for you.

Thanks.... Will get cracking....
Thanks for the helpful tips
Ok so if Mcaffe and Norton are the worst what do you consider the best? Norton got great reviews from PCWorld and PCMag.
