Friend just reported a stange new problem on her machine, with McAfee Online AV. She updated McAfee last night and ran a full AV scan. As she had several infected e-mail in her Netscape Mail (waiting for me to take a look at them to determine what IP address they came from), she expected it to flag them as infected and give her the option to Delete or Quartine them. This has always worked before.

However last night, the updated McAfee just deleted these files without giving her any option. Had her download AV update again. After downloading another infected e-mail (getting about 10 per day), an AV scan again deleted the infected e-mail without any option.

Had her un-install McAfee, delete internet files and cookies, reboot and then clean re-install McAfee Online again. Then after downloading a new e-mail infected with the Klez virus, run a full virus scan again. It again deleted the infected e-mail without allowing it to be Quartined or ignored.

I have had good luck viewing the headers of infected files and tracking them back to an IP address and the users ISP, and getting repeat offenders stopped. Was attempting to do the same for her, but now McAfee is just deleting all infected files after doing a Virus Scan, before I can look at their headers.

Has anyone done a McAfee update the last few days and had this problem with an AV Scan automatically deleting any/all infected files?

McAfee finally came out with an update notice of "new features" that include the automatic cleaning and deleting of infected files. If it is infected, its gone. Even if its a file you want or need to keep.
