I think my laptop is infected with the conflicker as well. I can not go to microsoft, Norton, McAfee, etc. or anyother site that might possibly have a remedy. I am blocked from almost anything computer related. I even tried going thru Comcast' Security downloads. I am really frusterated as to what my options are to get rid of it. I am VERY NOT computer saavy. I do have a desktop too that appears not have been infected at least right now. Can someone tell me if I can hook the infected laptop up to the desktop without harming the desktop, just to reach one of these sites for the security downloads? Does any one have advice so that I don't have to take the laptop to a repair store? HELP!

So I ran the kapersky on both the "critical areas" and "my computer" and it came up with nothing. Should I try what you recommended to comp dummy. I probably will considering it won't hurt to try. Please let me know if there is a next step. Thanks for the help!

you have 2 antiviruse programs, mcafee and avast, using both could be the cause of conflict. I would remove mcafee and keep avast. Make sure to turn on windows firewall too because avast isn't a firewall.

I installed Avast per another conversation on this site due to the problem since McAfee wasn't updating. Any ideas on how to get rid of the virus? Does the log show anything with regard to the virus. Thanks!

Try this , upload your HJT log to , http://www.hijackthis.de/ then you may be able to see for your self , or one of the Wise Men may be able to help further . When uninstalling , make sure the program is not still running run, msconfig , start up and untick in this case Mcafee , reboot and try again I mention this because I think that your inability to up date Mcafee is not the cause of your problems but I just hate Mcafee . Try this hostXpert by funkytoad http://www.funkytoad.com/index.php?... and reset your hosts to MS default from a command prompt ipconfig /flushdns Reinstall MBAM , this time choose save and rename mbaminstall.exe to something else Install and rename mbam.exe and try again .

McAfee is now gone. I had trouble getting Avast to download correctly so I used AVG instead which downloaded and updated with no problem. It found nothing though in it's scan. The Hijack This site isn't telling me too much I reset using funky toad. After all this I am still having the same problems. I guess I'm down to backing up the important stuff on this machine and restoring. Let me know if you think of anything else I can try. I probably won't get to this until well into the weekend. So just to finish this up, I did a restore back to a day before the problem. This seemed to fix things up. I reinstalled malwarebytes, it updated perfectly and found some infected files that are now gone. All seems to be ok. Thanks for all your help!
