I have an older Gateway (Pentium 200MMX) with 160 MB RAM and Mcafee viruscan. I went to update my DAT files the other night and now, everytime Viruscan loads I get an error message saying that AVSYNMGR has performed an illegal operation -- which, in turn, shuts down Viruscan completely. IOW, I am now without any virus protection. I tried doing a Repair (from the control panel menu), but I'm wondering if a complete uninstall/reinstall would be the trick. Or has my Viruscan and/or computer become too old to update? P.S. I downloaded and installed Spybot Search & Destroy the day before. Could there be some sort of conflict there?

Tom55, I had a similar problem with a recent McAfee dat update. I am running a P3 850mhz system with VirusScan 8 and when I tried to update following a microsoft windows update, the McAfee update would not complete. I think the recent windows patches caused some conflict with McAfee. I left the windows updates on the system and uninstalled and reinstalled my McAfee and all is well now. Not sure if this is your problem but in the past reinstalling has corrected many McAfee problems.
