For those of you who know about Steve Gibson and his website at www.grc.com (otherwise, you'd probably just tell me the file is infected and to get rid of it):
I seem to be having a problem with McAfee's VirusScan. I've got the latest version and the latest virus signature files. For some time now, when I scan the whole computer, McAfee will stop on the leaktest.exe (an app that tests your firewall's credibility) file that I downloaded directly from grc.com, teling me that the file contains the "LeakTest" virus. Two funny things about this are: the McAfee website has no record of the LeakTest virus, or anything close to it, when I do a search for it there; and that if I right click on the leaktest.exe file to scan it directly and individually, McAfee finds no problem with the file.
There is one other file where McAfee is doing the same thing. Maybe you know this one too, it's the stressrelief.exe file, a little game where you can pretend to destroy your desktop with a virtual hammer, termites, fire, and what not, then wash it clean with virtual water. McAfee tells me when running a full PC scan that it contains the "StessRelief joke" virus. Again, McAfee's website has no record of the virus, and VirusScan finds no problem at all with the file when scanned individually. I did some Google searches regarding this file, and someone mentioned in a forum somewhere that this file contains the "Win95/CIH" virus, a mutation of a virus called "Chernobyl"
I don't think I've ever noticed any problems with my computer that could be virus related since executing either of these files, and I've had stressrelief.exe for years, and used it when I had Win98. I'm pretty positive there's nothing wrong with leaktest.exe because I trust Steve Gibson; he's committed to antivirus and anti-intrusion issues, and he's somewhat of a big name in this area as well.
Forgive me for coming here first for an answer. I would like to go to McAfee with the issue, but my VirusScan isn't licensed, so you see, I'm not entitled to any tech support from McAfee. On the other hand though, I see that they have abn option to send in suspected infected files fir them to have a look at. I'll give that a shot as well. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has any insight into this issue. Grazzi.
